Zofran’s Label Change Comes Too Late

Even though pregnant women commonly use Zofran, the FDA never actually approved the drug for use by expectant women.  In fact, studies have linked several severe birth defects with the ingestion of this product during pregnancy, and as a result, lawsuits have been filed against GlaxoSmithKline, Zofran’s producers.  Two more women recently gave birth to babies suffering from congenital abnormalities, and both women blame GlaxoSmithKline for failing to properly inform them of the risks they were taking by ingesting Zofran while pregnant.  Even though the label on Zofran has recently been updated to include warnings for pregnant women, it is far too late for the families whose lives have already been harmed by the negligent company, and GlaxoSmithKline must take legal responsibility for these preventable tragedies.
